How many Pumpkin Spice Lattes have you indulged in already this September? I’ll admit that I have had a few.
When exactly did pumpkin spice become an obsession? Did we all of sudden discover the deliciousness of pumpkin flavored everything in the past few years? I swear, before then the only time you heard about pumpkin was in a pie.
Or maybe I just never paid attention. Either way, I’m not mad. I love all the pumpkin flavored things. All of them.
Pretty much if it involves pumpkins, or boots, or falling leaves, or cinnamon, or apples, or really anything that would even slightly evoke the feeling of the fall season, I am all over that.
Decorating included. But of course you knew that already.
And while I am always so stunned by all the pretty greens and grays and blues that have become so popular in fall décor, it never feels right in my home. I say I’m going to try it every year, but when it comes time what I really want to be surrounded by are warm rich hues like brown, rust, and burgundy.
So that’s exactly what I did.
I’m on a single girl’s budget now, so I had to limit myself to one – ONE – new pillow cover this year. And you all know how I love my pillow covers.
Turns out I have enough pillow covers to decorate this house five times over…so…maybe it’s really for the best.
You don’t have to pepper your house with pumpkins and leaves and all the traditional fall things to get that autumn feeling indoors. Deeper colors, heavier knits, and a mix of warm metals can do the same thing. I’m really loving the mix of antiqued gold, brass, and bronze with all my dark wood accents this fall season, so I started digging around all the nooks and crannies of this house for things with a similar appeal.
There is nothing “fall” about this horse print in an antiqued gold frame that I dug out of a stack of frames in the basement (sometimes I really do buy the most random stuff…), but that gold frame for fall?
I love the warmth it adds to that corner. The little molding piece was another treasure stacked in the basement. Seriously, it’s one big treasure hunt down there. Even I get surprised by what I find.
Perhaps that is a sign of a more serious problem…?
The pretty little bronze votive holders on the mantel were picked up on a whim while at World Market – they’re inexpensive and will be so easy to incorporate all around the house. I always like to keep votive holders like these on hand – they’re great filler.
No matter the season, you can’t go wrong with a tray and stacked books on the coffee table. Seriously, it’s a fail-safe combo – which is why I turn to it time and again. This time around I tucked these pretty magnolia leaves in a vase and added a wood pumpkin for some fall flair.
Simple changes for a warm and cozy room. I’m crossing my fingers for chilly nights ahead so I can snuggle up in here with whatever pumpkin flavored delight I happen to find. Here’s hoping for some sweater weather!
So I’m curious – what colors are you loving for fall this year?
