So how has 2017 been treating you so far?
Here we are, already into March, and I can definitely say it’s been off to a rather rocky start here at the Smith house. I suppose starting a new year off with a major surgery can do that, right?
You may have remembered I mentioned that Jordan had surgery right after Christmas. I’ll spare you all the nitty gritty details, but in a nut shell he was supposed to have colon resection surgery, his condition ended up being a lot worse than predicted, and they were unable to do the surgery as planned. So my poor husband went in thinking he was going in for a fairly routine procedure and instead woke up with a colostomy and news that as soon as he healed from this surgery it would be time to head back for round two.
Especially for a guy who is always on the go, and always has a million things going at once. Luckily, the doctors are confidant this will be temporary and he can expect a full recovery, but the timeframe is still a bit unknown. He’s frustrated to say the least.
So if things have been quiet around here it’s because we’re laying low and putting health and mind first. We’re still going ahead with the kitchen – we’ve been slowly removing the old floor and I’m narrowing down paint choices, materials, etc. I have a great tip for removing old adhesive and that nasty tar-like layer you often find covering old wood floors that have been buried under years and years of linoleum and tile. I’ll be sharing that soon.
I’ve also just been puttering around and doing what I love to do – making easy changes and simple swaps to refresh a room. It’s time to start thinking Spring and I can’t wait to play around with new pillow covers and little pops of green. I loved our spring decorating last year – I’m not really sure I can top it, but I’m sure going to try. 😉
And on the non-decorating front…
I went back and caught up on some DVR – have you been watching This is Us? OMG. I LOVE this show! I was a tad obsessed with Parenthood and was so very sad when it ended (I may have even re-watched the entire show on Netflix once or twice since it went off the air…), but This is Us has definitely filled that void. If you’re not watching it, you really need to.
I haven’t been watching many movies, but I did snuggle in and watch Girl on the Train last weekend. Loved the book, heard mixed reviews about the movie, so I was a bit hesitant to see it, but I thought they did a great job and I enjoyed it. All the recent buzz has me curious about La La Land – have you seen it? What did you think?
We made this for dinner last weekend – it was delicious! Quick and easy to prepare and so much flavor – my favorite kind of recipe.
Be still my neutral loving heart. I’ve been going back night after night and getting lost in this blog. The inspiration is endless.
The new Cascara Latte at Starbucks is pretty darn delicious if you haven’t tried it. I like to treat myself on the ride home after a particularly long day at the office.
I love yoga and pilates but it’s not always easy to find good workouts to do at home in either format. I ordered this DVD on a whim and have been loving it. The sequences move quickly, so you need to repeat a couple of times before you get the full benefit, but I find myself actually wanting to get out of bed for my 5am workout on “Yoga Day” now. Plus they’re short (around 25 minutes each), so you can do one when you’re pinched for time, or double them up when you have extra time to spare.
And lastly…I’m just going to go ahead and say it – I’m not loving Fixer Upper this season. 🙁 There have been one or two that I loved, but for the most part, the makeovers – while always beautiful – have me feeling a little…meh. Anyone else?
I’m off to take advantage of the sunshine and get started on some spring decorating. You can find last year’s tours here, here and here if you’re looking for a little spring inspiration to get you in the mood.
Have a great weekend friends!
