Earlier last fall, Jordan and I made a weekend trip to Michigan for a wedding.
As we pulled off the expressway and began making our way to the hotel, we pulled up to a stoplight and noticed a charming little shop across the street.
He immediately looked over at me, “We should probably stop, right?”
I glanced at the clock and shook my head, “Better not. I don’t want to be late.” We still had to get to the hotel, check-in, and get ready for the ceremony which was taking place in just a couple of hours.
So, I sadly watched out the window as we turned away from that charming little store with all the rusty, weathered, and worn treasures literally spilling out onto the sidewalk.
My husband knows me well, and knew I was dying to get inside that shop. “Are you sure? We have a little bit of time…”
I wasn’t about to turn that offer down twice, so we turned around and pulled into the driveway. I was out of the truck in an instant.
The hunt was on.
So many things caught my eye that day, but I didn’t have the time to really think them through, so I passed on most – until I stumbled upon a charming and chippy cabinet in the back corner of the store.
I knew I wanted it immediately and sent Jordan up to the counter to get me a good deal – he ended up scoring it for half price. 😉
And just like that we became the proud owners of this absolutely adorable, perfectly worn-in, totally filthy cabinet. 😀
I snapped these photos quickly on our sun porch before cleaning it up.
Here it is before
And after a few buckets of hot soapy water and lots of scrubbing
If you saw my Christmas Tour, you know this cabinet found a home in our dining room. I’ve been looking for some time now for a piece to replace that little buffet I was using – and this cabinet fit the bill perfectly.
I love all the sloppy paint, and the chips, and the cracks, and the dents. Simple farmhouse goodness.
The only thing I do not care for are the drawer handles. The wooden spool thing is not exactly my thing, so I will be replacing those (the little knobs on the doors will stay).
I’ll be sure to update you once I have something new for those drawers.
But for now I’m just enjoying this gorgeous old cabinet and love all the charm it’s brought to this room.
What do all my vintage loving friends think? Good find?
