I don’t know about you, but I’m always in the mood for a good book recommendation. I am never not reading a book – as soon as I finish one I immediately dive into another, so I always like to have an idea of what I want to read next.
As if you couldn’t tell by the large wall of books behind our couch. 😉
Of course I read all year long, but there’s something about kicking back in the summer time with the warm breeze blowing through the windows and a glass of refreshing lemonade by my side that is just oh-so enjoyable.
Don’t you agree?
So for today, I thought I’d put together a list of some of the books I’ve enjoyed lately and some of those that are still on my list to read, in case you were up for a good book this summer too. 🙂
WHAT I RECENTLY READ AND LOVED:
WHERE THEY FOUND HER by Kimberly McCreight
I’m always up for a good mystery – and this one did not disappoint. I loved the way the author told the story through the perspective of three different women and how she weaved and connected their stories as the book progressed. It kept me guessing on how it all tied together until the very end. Highly recommend this one.
THE GIRL YOU LEFT BEHIND by Jojo Moyes
Moyes is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I’ve always been a sucker for a good love story and she tells one so well. So caught up in how the stories of two women from different eras intersect – one struggling through occupied France during World War I, and the other struggling to put her life back together after her husband passes away in present day – I finished this book in just a couple of days. I absolutely L.O.V.E.D. it.
THE WINTER PEOPLE by Jennifer McMahon
This was the first book I read by McMahon, but certainly not the last. Full of mystery and the supernatural, the first few chapters have you thinking you may be afraid to turn the lights out at bedtime – yet unable to stop yourself from turning the pages. It is a definite must read.
THE WIDOW by Fiona Barton
Ok, so I didn’t love this book, but it’s getting a lot of buzz so I thought I’d share my thoughts. I will say that I found it entertaining enough and it was a fairly quick read. However, I also felt like I had the ending figured out almost from page one – so it seemed a little like I was reading forever and ever to get to the point. I also failed to make a real connection to any of the characters – I didn’t love them or hate them. I guess it all just had me feeling a little…meh.
WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO READING NEXT:
PRETTY BABY by Mary Kubica
I’ve heard nothing but great things about this book and this author – I can’t wait to get started. I’m told The Good Girl is fantastic as well.
AFTER YOU by Jojo Moyes
I loved, loved, loved Me Before You (the movie comes out next month, so read it now!), and I can’t wait to read this sequel and continue the story.
THE NIGHT SISTER by Jennifer McMahon
Just because I loved The Winter People so darn much, this one is next on my list – I started it last night.
Are any of these on your must-read list for this summer too? Care to share what else you’re looking forward to reading or some of your favorite past reads? I’m always in the mood for suggestions!
Have a great weekend!! 🙂
