I know some of you may disagree with this decision, but the dining room has two (more) new chairs. It’s not that I didn’t like the antique chairs, it’s just that they were showing their age – and not in a good way.
We’ll keep them tucked away in storage, because as my husband put it, “If you get rid of them, in six months you’ll be saying ‘I wish I still had those old chairs’, so you might as well hang on to them.”
He knows me well. 🙂
When I started dreaming up this whole little dining room refresh, I was pretty certain I wanted to replace the two remaining old chairs with a wood bistro style chair. They’re simple, they’re casual and yet elegant at the same time, and they have a vintage feel that I am of course drawn to – I thought they would be perfect for our little dining room.
And so, I began a search that led me to a pair of these chairs from Ballard Designs.
Our chairs are the Weathered Oak finish and I LOVE how they look. I was worried the light color would feel washed out, so I originally ordered a set in Chestnut – but I didn’t care for that color at all. Too orange. Too “finished”.
And of course, me being the polished blogger that I am, I forgot to get a picture before packing them up and shipping them back. Oopsie.
The oak is neutral, it’s rustic, and it pairs well with all the other wood tones in the room. I think it could also easily be darkened with a little oil or stain if we ever wanted down the road.
I also like the fact that although these chairs are slightly smaller and don’t take up as much space visually, they have a wider and much more comfortable seat than our old chairs. And if I ever wanted to incorporate a bit more color, I could easily add a chair pad, although the rattan pad is quite comfy on its own – and I love the texture it provides too.
So…I’m a little afraid to ask…but what do you think of our new chairs? 🙂
