After seeing how quickly and easily the dining room got its little facelift, I now want to tackle my home office. My job allows me to work from home three days a week, so between my days at home for work, this blog, and just general home stuff – this room needs to do triple duty, and it needs to do it with efficiency. I probably spend more time in this room than any other in the house – I expect a lot from it, but unfortunately it’s just not functioning for me these days.
In addition to needing room to do my job (as well as accommodating double office equipment – a set for home and a set for work), I need it to be easier to organize, provide more accessible storage, and allow me the opportunity to keep inspiration and current projects within easy sight.
Oh yeah, and I want it to be a pretty and inspiring space to spend time in as well.
That’s not asking too much is it? 🙂
So here the room is today…
And here is what I want to change…
Ok, not everything. I still love the light fixture and will be keeping it. But everything else will go.
Kind of not kidding. 🙂
Let’s start with the layout. I’m tired of staring at two walls all day long, so I’d like to move a new desk (we’ll get to that in a minute) more into the middle of the room, so I can see out a window during the day. This room is itty bitty so that may not be the best option, but if it’s possible at all, I’d like to give it a try.
With the desk moved away from the wall, I’d like to build a wall of shelves where the wall organizer is currently hanging. Something similar to this design
My daily system will then move to another wall, as well as some additional wall organizing stuff – I’m still working out those details in my head.
I’m going to bake my husband his favorite oatmeal cookies and bat my eyelashes real pretty to try to get him to build me a desk similar to one like this
I love the simple design and think this could be really pretty made with some reclaimed wood…
…did I mention he also has to build me those wall shelves? I might need to double that batch of oatmeal cookies… 🙂
I love, love, love the soft and vintage feel of this space
so I’ll probably end up painting the walls in here white. I actually don’t mind the current dark gray color (Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray), but I don’t think I’ll achieve the feel I’m after if I keep it…would you paint it?
And I’d love to do a wall in planks – ok I’d love to do the whole room in planks, but I’ll settle for a wall -maybe the shelf wall…?
Find a new rug, keep the chair, add in a little more vintage flair, and I think that about covers it. Am I forgetting anything? What do you think? Let’s hear it!
