Do you make resolutions? I usually make a few every year – I don’t think I have ever been very successful at keeping them though. Nonetheless, I continue to make them – this year I want to:
Read more. This was on last year’s list too, and I did really well at it for the first half of the year. The sad thing is, I LOVE to read – it shouldn’t be so hard to make time for things you love to do. I have a stack of unread books and a list twice as big of titles I want to check out, so this year I want to re-discover the joy of reading.
Exercise more/Eat healthier. I know a lot of us vow to do this every year. I developed a lot of bad eating habits last year and allowed workouts to be one of the first things to skip if my days were busy. I want to make them more of a priority and spend more time cooking and eating at home – I feel better and have more energy when I’m taking care of myself. Plus I’m dangerously close to having to go up a size and buy a whole new wardrobe – I would much rather spend my money on fun house projects this year. 🙂
Declutter and get organized. We have too much stuff. Period. If there isn’t room to store it, there isn’t room to keep it. If I haven’t worn it, looked at it, thought about it in the last year, it’s not important and needs to go. Every closet, cupboard, basket and box beware – I’m on a mission to PURGE.
Be present. It’s so easy to get caught up in the to-do list, the chores, and the day to day responsibilities that sometimes I allow it to stress me out and take all the fun out of my day. There will always be more things on the list than can ever be accomplished, so it’s important to remember that what gets done, gets done and the rest can simply wait.
I also have exciting plans for things around the house this year. We kind of took last year off, so I hope to make some big progress around this place in 2016. I’ll be talking more about all of those plans coming up, but for the most part they involve the exterior, the dining room, the bathroom, and the sun porch (Did you know we have a sun porch? We totally do. But it’s hiding beneath a mound of junk and hard to see. It’s time we do something about that – see Resolution No. 3 above.).
Since the sun didn’t come out at all yesterday, I couldn’t get any pictures of our house “post-Christmas” for you – so I rounded up some pretty spaces to start your Monday off instead. It’s been a few weeks since I shared some favorites anyway.
Here you go…
I hope your first week of the new year is off to a great start! We’ll get back to decorating on Wednesday. 🙂
