How is it the last day of 2015?!?!
I swear each year goes by faster than the one before.
This year was definitely a year full of highs and lows for us. I do my best to remind myself to cherish the memories of the highs and learn a lesson or two from the lows. It’s my belief that it all happens for a reason, good and bad.
One of the big surprises for me this year was the start of this blog. I had been thinking about starting a blog for some time before hitting “publish” on my first post back in March (you can read that post here). A couple of years ago, I stumbled across Layla Palmer’s blog, The Lettered Cottage, during a random google search and was immediately drawn to her home, her style, and her voice. Before long, I was following a number of different blogs on a regular basis – each unique in their own way, but united by the passion for creating a comfortable, meaningful home and the desire to share it with others.
I felt like they were written by women like me, those who can talk nonstop about their favorite paint colors and get really excited about a new pillow or candleholder…
…sometimes it’s the little things in life… 🙂
But in reality, it’s not so much the “things” we all get excited about – it’s the joy we get in creating and crafting a home for our family and friends to take comfort and find peace in after a long day out in the crazy, busy world around us.
Given the amazing talent already out there, I had so many doubts that I would have anything to offer with this blog. I’m not crafty. I’m not clever. I don’t really know what to do with Facebook or Instagram. I don’t DIY.
What could I possibly do that hasn’t already been done?
Or be done a lot better than I ever could?
I’m just a girl who loves to create (or attempt to create) pretty spaces and can pour over the same Pottery Barn catalog ten nights in a row, soaking up every detail. Pathetic, I know. Don’t judge. 🙂
But I went ahead and started it anyway, and much to my surprise you all continue to come back and read my mindless chatter week after week.
So thank you sweet friends.
Nothing brightens my day more than hearing one of you say “you have inspired me”. Every time I feel like I’m about to throw in the towel on this whole thing, I’ll receive a sweet message from one of you, and suddenly it all becomes worth it again. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support, and for your encouragement – and for continuing to listen as I babble on about my latest vision for a room design that will probably never reach full completion because I can’t ever focus on one project at a time – I really have had so much fun sharing it all with you along the way!
Whew – where did all that come from? I only intended to share a few of the most popular posts from the year today, but the words just started flowing and I figured I should just go with it. So in case you’re new here – or just want to take a look back – here are some of the posts people seemed to enjoy the most from 2015 (NOTE: It’s also come to my attention that most of you do not enjoy recipes – I can’t promise to never post another one, but I’ll try to keep that in mind going forward) 🙂 :
I wish you all the very best in the year ahead. Happy New Year and I’ll see you right back here in 2016! 🙂
