I receive lots of compliments for the antique box/wicker trunk combo in our living room. I randomly stacked the two together one day, realized they were near perfect table height, and really liked the look –I’ve been using them as a side table ever since.
Bonus points for storage. All those pillow covers I’m always swapping out? They live in these boxes. 🙂
Here are a couple other alternatives to a traditional side table that I was able to create with items I had around the house. This may come in handy if you’re adding additional seating to accommodate holiday guests – it’s always a good idea to have a place for people to set down a drink. 🙂
I picked up this large lidded basket on sale earlier this year to use as extra storage in my office.
I ended up liking it so much in the living room I just might make it permanent. Again – bonus points for storage.
This beautiful old crate was a find from our last trip to the flea market.
Flip it over, top it with a few books for added height, and it makes a perfect little side table. And although you can’t put things in it because it’s upside down, you can certainly hide things under it. You gotta take storage anyway you can get it, am I right? 🙂
Other options could be a stool, small step ladder, or even a large stack of books. I always like the look of mismatched tables in a room – it keeps things interesting – and using something a little unexpected adds an extra dose of character.
Happy decorating!! 🙂
