“Nesting in the fall isn’t wasted time at all. It’s a comforting way to welcome us home.” – Melissa Michaels – The Inspired Room
Happy Friday friends! I thought I would pop in today with a little list of my “must haves” when it comes to decorating your home for fall. Things that I either use and love, or are similar to things I use and love. You know, just in case you wanted to do some shopping this weekend…;)
- A Cozy Throw
I love this throw from Pottery Barn. It’s super soft, has gorgeous texture and comes in a variety of colors to work within your space. I brought home the taupe color (not pictured above) this year. 🙂
- A Plaid Pillow (or Two…or Three…)
Does anything say FALL more than plaid?? I spotted this pillow at Target and just had to have it. Bonus: it is made with a super soft and cuddly cover – perfect for napping. Grab one for each end of your sofa.
- A Fall Scented Candle
I have been buying the same scented candle, “Leaves” from Bath & Body Works, to burn from September til Thanksgiving for years. Sometimes I swap in a “Sweater Weather” (also by Bath & Body Works) just to shake things up. 🙂
- A Dough Bowl
Dough bowls are expensive and hard to find – trust me, I know – but hear me out on this one. This tray from Target is a great alternative, at a terrific price point, and will provide the same rustic beauty as the real deal. Fill it with gourds or baby boos for fall.
- Baby Boos
Speaking of baby boos – you can’t go wrong with these little cuties. Fill up that dough bowl or scatter them about your house. They last a long time, and their simple look and neutral color can help balance the stronger hues often found in fall decor. You can usually find them at your local farm stand or supermarket.
- Leaf and/or Berry Branches
Clip some from outside, or for a longer lasting alternative, try these leaf branches from World Market. Similar styles are also easy to find at any hobby/craft store – and come in as vivid or neutral a shade as you like.
- Woven Baskets
I love the texture of wicker baskets and have them scattered all throughout my house. They feel right at home with the colors and textures of the fall season. Use them to hold logs next to the fireplace, keep extra blankets and pillows nearby, or hold stacks of magazines waiting to be read on a Sunday morning. Or use one to hold all those beautiful leafy branches! I’ve had my eye on this lovely basket for a while now. I adore those leather handles!
- A Rustic Wood Tray
I love trays for keeping things together on a coffee table, but they are versatile anywhere in the home. Use them to create a centerpiece on the table, hold barware atop the dining room sideboard, or to keep things organized on a nightstand. Choosing something a bit aged and weathered looking like this tray will go perfect with all your fall décor. No matter what you choose to decorate it with, pop in a small bud vase with a simple leafy stem, or a jar filled with acorns and it will instantly fit in with the season.
- A Welcoming Wreath
Welcome guests with a beautiful wreath full of fall color and charm. This wreath is gorgeous, colorful, and would be perfect hanging on the front door or even inside over the mantel.
- A Pumpkin Spice Latte
This one speaks for itself. Sit back and take a sip as you admire your pretty home. 🙂
