My birthday was earlier this week and my family did a little bit of treasure hunting for my gifts – such a surprise and I was thrilled. My parents gave me these cute wood spoons and I immediately pictured them hanging in the dining room.
I hung them beneath the Fresh Baked Pies sign alongside the ladder shelf, and I like the touch of charm they contribute to that wall.
By now, you all know I love any object made of worn, weathered wood and these spoons do not disappoint. The larger one has a water stain, but that’s ok – the imperfection adds to its story, right?
Now, they’re not really spoons, but I’m unsure what they are so that’s what I keep calling them. The handle of one is notched so it appears they are intended to rest on the side of a bowl. If anyone knows what they really are, please share! 🙂
I was also completely surprised by Jordan’s gift this year – it might be my favorite present ever. I spotted these old newspaper books at a shop a few weeks ago, and mentioned to Jordan how much I loved them (and how out of my price range they were) when I got home. I was fairly certain he was paying no attention as I babbled on about how awesome they were, but he proved me wrong. The shop is only open twice a month, and he took it upon himself to call the shop owner and ask if he could come in while they were closed to buy one for my birthday this year. So sweet! 🙂
There are so many things I love about this book: the age, the size (it’s huge!), the faded cloth cover, I could go on and on, but I’ll spare you. I immediately placed it on the coffee table so it has center stage in our living room. Let’s just say it takes “coffee table book” to a whole new level. 🙂 I only briefly browsed the articles inside though – the pages are brittle and some are falling apart so it made me a little nervous – I’ll read through it some day when I can take my time.
I’m still working on switching things over into summer mode throughout the house, so I’ll be sharing more about the book, and other changes (new sofa gets delivered on Saturday) with you soon.
So what do you think of the little “spoons”? Any idea what I should really be calling them? 🙂
