So, I meant to get this post done last night, but when I hopped in my car after work yesterday I was unpleasantly surprised to find that it would not start. Three and a half hours and a tow truck ride later, my car and I were safely dropped off at home (after which Jordan was able to discover it was just a loose and dirty starter wire. Or something like that anyway…) – but it kind of put a wrench in the evening’s plans and no blog post was done.
I realized earlier this week that I never really finished the “House Tour” by showing you the other two bedrooms. Probably because I haven’t done much for decorating in either one – but that’s ok, I’ll give you the before and afters anyway.
We have three bedrooms in this house: our room, a guest room, and the home office (you can see that room here). The guest room looked like this originally
Today, it looks something like this
Actually, that is what it looked like about six months ago. Since then it somehow became the dumping ground for things we didn’t know what to do with and now looks more like something you would see on an episode of Hoarders. A plan is in the works to start fixing that soon though! I’m picturing some sort of coastal/farmhouse/cottage vibe – if that makes any sense…?? I have been slowly collecting things and drafting a plan to make this room pretty again. New paint, new bedding, new art, and some new furniture – it’s getting it all (other than the light – I love that fixture and plan on keeping it). When – you ask? I have no idea. Maybe sometime this summer, but don’t hold me to it. 🙂
We use the largest of the three rooms as our bedroom. There is a tree directly outside each of the windows in this room, which really cuts down on the natural light and makes it an incredibly difficult room to photograph – no matter how sunny the day is, it always looks a little dark in here.
The room looked like this when we bought the house
I have hardly done a thing to decorate this room, and I’m not sure why. A couple of years ago, I repainted and bought new bedding and a couple of lamps and then I just kind of stopped. Nothing in here has really been planned or coordinated (other than the bedding and the wall color), and while I don’t mind that everything is mismatched, I need to spend some time to do the extra work to tie everything together.
I recently purchased a new rug (just waiting for a rug pad before putting it down), and I have a plan for over the headboard (the maps are going to find a new home), and I am slowly devising a plan for other parts of the room. I would love an extra wide dresser on this wall
We could use every extra bit of storage in here, and there are a lot of tall narrow pieces in the room currently, so I think a shorter, wider dresser would help balance that out a bit.
I also want to soften the look of the windows with some lighter drapes.
They were the best drapes I could find that blocked out the light (I like it pitch dark when I sleep), and within my budget at the time, but I have never been thrilled with them and highly dislike the material they are made of, so it’s time to invest in something more in line with my style.
Little by little, I am determined to make this room into the relaxing, restful retreat I’m dreaming of – and you know I will be updating you along the way as things start to come together!
Have a wonderful weekend!! 🙂
