I have acquired a few new treasures over the last month or so, and I finally took some time this weekend to display some of them. I was getting kind of bored with things in the dining room, so that’s where I started.
I started by reorganizing the buffet a bit. It was starting to look a little sloppy, so I moved things around on the lower shelf and inside the glass front doors and now I feel like it is a little more balanced.
I also added some new things to the top. I found this cute little bucket at Target – it reminds me of an old olive bucket – and I gathered all of my cotton stems and placed them inside.
Next came these awesome wood bowls I grabbed at an antiques store last weekend.
They had a large stack of them and if my budget would have allowed I think I would have bought them all, but it didn’t so I only brought home two. I love them stacked but I think a group of them could look pretty great hanging on the wall too.
I used a carved wood tray I’ve had for a few years to hold them, and added a large moss ball I found at Marshall’s to add a touch of color.
On the other side, I placed a couple of metal candle holders I had tucked away in a drawer, and an old cutting board I found at a recent estate sale. I think I’m going to start collecting old cutting boards like this – I just love the character.
Now my buffet has a simple new look, and I get to enjoy my new finds every time I pass by.
I cleaned up the ladder shelf as well, and added this cute cake tin I picked up while antiquing.
I also included this little “recipe” I found while browsing old family recipe books with my Mom. I’m not sure why, but we found it amusing and I like how it adds a small touch of personality here.
It was written on the back of an old envelope postmarked 1944 – it’s been around a while!
