I have a few spots around the house where I like to periodically change up the décor. Sometimes it is a reflection of the seasons, and sometimes it’s in response to a new purchase, but often it is simply the result of an afternoon spent puttering around the house and moving things around. Making subtle, simple changes keeps me from getting bored with my room’s look.
One of my favorite spots to have fun with is my coffee table. I found this table years ago at an antiques store in Michigan, and while there is a lot I don’t like about it, there is also a lot I do, so until I fall in love with something else – it’s staying put.
The coffee table is one of those spots in the house that sees a lot of changes throughout the year, but regardless of what I decide to display, I almost always include a tray.
I have a few different trays that I keep in rotation, and I like using them for the coffee table because they hold everything I want to display, corral remotes, and if I need to make room I just pick up the tray and set it off to the side.
I currently have things styled very simply, with a small stack of design books, a yummy smelling candle, and a strand of wooden beads.
And underneath, a wicker tray keeps magazines within easy reach
Nothing fancy required here – just these few simple additions lend a casual, cozy layer to the entire room.

P.S. Alice really wanted to be a part of the photo shoot today.
It never fails – if I am trying to take her picture, she wants nothing to do with it, but if I’m trying to get shots around the house she tries to be in every frame. Silly dog. 🙂
